Web Tools July 5th, 2008

It’s been a year now that I am using Thunderbird as the email client to fetch emails at work. I also used it for my personal emails.

Let me guide you how you can setup an IMAP Gmail Account with your Thunderbird. Yeah, I am using Gmail for my personal email account. And, these are the steps.

1. Open your Thunderbird email client and click on ‘Tools’.

2. Choose ‘Account Settings’ and a new window will open.

3. Click on ‘Add Account’ button.

4. ‘Account Wizard’ window will open, choose ‘Email account’ and click on next button.

5. Indentity. Enter your name and the email address as required and click next.

6. Server Information. Select IMAP as the incoming mail server. Entert ‘imap.gmail.com’ as the incoming mail server.

7. User Names. The full email address, for instance ‘pathfinderobs@gmail.com’, will be your Incoming User Name.

8. Account Name. You can name whatever do you want for the email account you setup like ‘Personal Mail’

9. Congratulations! A confirmation Email will prompt to confirm that the account has been setup.
Note : There are few cases that this setup will not work. You will need to make some changes on other settings.

Tools > Accounts Settings > Server Settings > Security Settings > Use secure connection : SSL

Tools > Accounts Settings > Outgoing Server > Edit > Security and Authentication > check ‘User name and password’ ; User Name : email@address.com Use secure connection : SSL
